Built From Experience

Line Built Construction is a family-run construction business serving North Idaho, specializing in custom decks, stairs, and quality craftsmanship.

What started from humble beginnings has grown into a business built on experience, quality, and a genuine enjoyment of the work.

I'm Shawn Line, owner and general contractor at Line Built Construction. Building has been my trade for most of my adult life, and I've spent the last 25 years working in construction. Over the years, I've worked on all kinds of projects, and every one has brought something different to figure out.

That's one of the things I enjoy most about construction. A difficult project isn't necessarily a problem. It's an opportunity to find the right way to get the job done.

A Hands-On Approach

I've always believed that if my name is on the job, I should be involved in the work.

I'm there making decisions, solving problems, and making sure the work is done the way it should be. After 25 years in the trade, experience has taught me that there is usually more than one way to approach a project. The goal is finding the right one for the home, the property, and the homeowner.

A lot of our growth has come through word of mouth, repeat customers, and referrals from people who have seen the quality of our work. That's something I don't take for granted.

Good craftsmanship isn't just about how something looks when it's finished. It's the preparation, measurements, materials, structure, and all the small decisions along the way that determine how well something will hold up years from now.

We're not interested in rushing through a job just to get to the next one. We want it built right.

Passing It On

Today, I get to share that experience with my son, Hayden.

He started by being around the work and working alongside me. Over time, that turned into actually learning the trade: how to use the tools, understand the process, solve problems, and pay attention to the details that make a difference.

There's something meaningful about being able to pass a trade on to the next generation. A lot of what we learn in construction comes from doing the work, seeing how things come together, and learning how to solve problems along the way.

I'm proud to have the opportunity to teach him what I've learned, not just about construction, but about working hard, keeping your word, taking pride in your work, and doing things right even when nobody is watching.

Why I Build

I enjoy what I do.

I enjoy taking on a project, figuring out how to make it work, and seeing it come together. I'm especially proud when a homeowner trusts me to take ownership of a difficult job and is thrilled with the finished result.

Some of the most rewarding moments are when a homeowner sees the finished project and it turns out even better than they pictured. It's also pretty rewarding when a previous customer calls us back for another project or recommends us to their friends and family.

That tells me we did more than build something. We earned their trust.

Quality has always been something I'm unwilling to compromise on. I want to look at the finished project and know that I did it right.

That's what I want Line Built Construction to continue to be: good work, done well, by people who care about the result.
